Installation of 3500m of optical sensing cable
Temperature monitoring of whole ammonia pipeline
Leakage simulation using dry ice gas
Configured to trigger warnings & alerts

Project Description

Summary: Leakage detection of an ammonia rack pipeline in a fertilizer production plant based on distributed temperature measurements

Clients: Yara Italia

Place: Ravenna (Italy)

Period: 2005  - 2006

Installation: Leakage detection

Structure's short description: - 2.200m of ammonia rack pipeline - Material: carbon steel - Diameter: 2? & 4? - Working pressure: 16,5 bar - Design pressure: 20 bar at max 50?C

Aim of monitoring: - The ammonia inside the pipeline is in liquid state, but (due to the Joul-Thomson effect) in case of leakage, the ammonia goes out at atmosphere pressure at approx. -30? C - The aim of the monitoring is to detect leakages by continuous temperature monitoring

Number of sensor: 3
