Bridges: Dynamic test on railway viaduct

Case study: SOFO System

Steel structrue monitoring
High speed railway bridge
Dynamic measurements

Project Description

Summary: Dynamic structural monitoring of a viaduct located over the Sesia river in Italy. A total of 8 SOFO sensors with a length of one meter have been used to perform the dynamic measurements in different cross sections and positions

Clients: University of Leuven

Place: MI-TO Railway - Viaduct on the Sesia river (Italy)

Period: 2007  - 2007

Installation: SMARTEC

Structure's short description: The viaduct has a total length of 322 meters, it is composed by 7 spans, each one of 46 meters

Aim of monitoring: The aim of the monitoring was to study the constructive typologies and their details subject to fatigue loading. For this application 8 SOFO sensors with a length of 1 meters were installed to monitor the dynamic response of the bridge when a high speed train across the viaduct
