GeoStructures: Expo 98 anchor monitoring

Case study: SOFO System

Anchor monitoring
Load Test

Project Description

Summary: Monitoring of one anchor at the Expo 98 in Lisbon during traction tests

Clients: Tecnasol FGE

Place: Lisbon (Portugal)

Period: 2003  - 2003

Installation: Tecnasol / Smartec

Structure's short description: One 12 meters ground anchor has been monitored using 7 SOFO standard sensors and 7 vibrating wire sensors. 4 SOFO standard sensors have been installed in the bulb zone (3 times 0.5 m and one time 5m long) and 3 SOFO standard sensors in the free zone (3 times 0.5 m long). The vibrating wire sensors were 0.18 m long. After the installation of the sensors, the anchor has been placed inside the borehole and the bulb has been injected (standard procedure). One week later, traction test (finished with anchor collapse) has been executed.

Aim of monitoring: The aims of the traction test were to compare sensors results to theoretical calculus and to compare the two different measurement system.

Number of sensor: 7

Main Results: The ?Insituto Superior T?nico? of Lisbon will publish the results in the next months.
