Pipelines: Pra-Oil Leakage detection test

Case study: DiTeSt, DiTemp System

Leakage Detection Simulation
Leakage localization
Small detection volume

Project Description

Summary: A fully on-field leakage detection test exclusively based on fibre optic technology was successfullyperformed during June 2007 at the PraOil (ENI group) premises in Sannazzaro De Burgondi (Italy).

Clients: PraOil

Place: San Nazzaro De' Burgondi (PV) (Italy)

Period: 2007  - 2007

Installation: Electronic News S.r.l.

Structure's short description: The area available for the test has allowed the use of approx. 200m polyethylene pipeline buried under 1m of argillaceous soil. The leakage simulation was achieved by hot water injection in the soil through several valves at different positions along the pipe.

Aim of monitoring: The main aim has been to demonstrate the feasibility relative easy integration of this kind of innovative leakage detection system based on distributed fibre optic technology

Number of sensor: 2

Main Results: The Smartec sensing cable was able to detect any simulated leakage, by localizing every single temperature variation within different border conditions.
