Oil and Gas Production: Riser Monitoring

Case study: SOFO System

Riser monitoring
SOFO dynamic development
High-pressure sensors development

Project Description

Summary: Structural monitoring of risers for deepwater production risers

Clients: AGIP/Eni/Tecnomare

Place: San Donato Milanese (MI) (Italy)

Period: 2001  - N/A

Installation: Tecnomare / SMARTEC

Structure's short description: Risers are the components connecting the production platform with the seabed assuring transportation of hydrocarbons to the surface. These risers are subjected to a series of external action that are directly related to environmental condition and to platform?s operating conditions.

Aim of monitoring: Structural integrity of the riser system is directly connected to environmental safety and to the ability to produce hydrocarbons. The aim is to gather real-time information about the stress level in the most critical locations of the riser system is hence deemed to be a key to the improvement of the safety of a field development in a broad sense.

Number of sensor: 10

Main Results: ongoing R&D project: sensors and connection systems designed and qualified in hyperbaric chamber tests
